Singles Cruise: Getting the Most From Your Cruising Experience!

A Fun Time for All!

Singles cruises have become popular over time as unattached individuals make it to the high seas in search for a relaxing holiday and adventure. While this type of trip is not your typical or traditional cruise getaway, it pays to be ready not only with what you should bring onboard the ship but in how you conduct yourself there. The following are suggestions on how to make your journey a trip to remember:

Checking In:
It is strongly recommended that you arrive a day earlier before your actual departure date in order not to miss the ship’s embarkment schedule. However, if schedule does not permit you to arrive one day before the ship sails and just affords you a matter of hours, then pack some change of clothes, toothpaste, toothbrush and wash cloths so you can freshen up in the terminal restroom. Looking crumpled and appearing like you have been just out of bed due to a last minute flight to make your ship is not advisable, especially if your are going on singles cruises.

Rooming In:
A practical way to spend your singles cruise is to share your cabin with an unfamiliar person, but this would need a huge amount of patience and broadmindedness on your part as well as on the part of your roommate. On the first night ask what space they want, where they want their things and what bed they prefer to show that you intend to get along with them. Then amiably set some rules on space, privacy, bathroom use among other things. Be sure to follow the rules according to your agreement so that if anything goes wrong the problem does not stem out your space.

Onboard Activities:
Dress appropriately. If you are going to have a dip in the pool then by all means wear a swimsuit. If you just prefer to hang out on the deck, jeans and tee shirts will do. However, avoid shirts that may have captions that could be a “turn-off” for the opposite sex. As for having dinners – be sure to wear a formal evening wear if you decide to dine formally.

Conversation Starters:
Before going on a tour, it would be wise to read about current events and know the latest best sellers. You can glean knowledge about this by visiting a local public library. Since others seek to make friends and acquaintances, a little information or knowledge about the topic they open up about could do wonders.

Themes and Special Occasions:
Most singles cruise ships employ a coordinator who sends you information about the activities that are programmed onboard. If in case you do not receive any communication or information regarding activities and programs, call the travel agency and request for the contact number of the coordinator. Knowing the activities onboard before hand will help you to pack what is necessary and appropriate for every occasion should you wish to participate in them.

Formal Nights:
There will always be a formal dinner scheduled for this type of cruise – one for a four day cruise and two for a seven day cruise. While a coat and tie is considered by some an outdated formal wear it is better to appear dignified rather than inappropriate while the formal session is in progress.

In Port:
Most guests or passengers may wear whatever they want. Of course this will largely depend on the excursion they will be going to. So better dress appropriately. Just to make sure that everything will be under control, pack an extra change of clothes that could be considered as casual and not rugged.

For most of the trip it is better to just be yourself and strike as many friendships as you can. After all the purpose of a singles cruise is to meet others who are in the same civil status as you are and at the same time be able to enjoy the trip immensely.
