A Fun Mediterranean Cruise
People going on holidays with their partners or with the whole family would find a Mediterranean cruise one of the most fulfilling moments in their lives. Going on this trip provides several destination options which you can choose from but there is one place that travelers to this ancient part of the world should not miss out – and this is Piraeus, Greece.

Piraeaus is a Greek port and city located southwest of Athens in Attica and facing the majestic Aegean Sea. Filled with a very rich history, this city is filled with excellent attractions and an extensive collection of activities for the globe trekker. This port city is always busy with travelers as it is very accessible with all means of transportation including the metro, cabs, hydrofoils, ferries and Mediterranean cruise ships. While you are at port in Piraeus, check out the following places and activities in this majestic place.

* Hellenic Maritime Museum:
Greeks are known for their maritime prowess and this museum showcases both ancient and Modern Greek ships, complete with paintings, flags, ship models, maps and othe nautical tools and instruments used on ships. A section of the ancient wall built by Themistocles around Piraeus can be found here, including ship models carved from bone made by ancient prisoners.

* Marina Zea:

The marina, which is one of the largest of its kind in Europe, holds a variety of amazing yachts that can take you to the Saronic Gulf to visit the islands there. Shops and stores abound as well as taverns and cafés where you can sit back and sip your favorite beverage while watching the fantastic boats and yachts.

* Kastella Hill:
You can climb this hill and get an amazing view of the Aegean, while gazing upon the traditional Greek houses that were built along the slopes of the hill. At a glance, these houses seem to fall out into the sea. Restaurants, coffe houses and other shops abound here, as well as clubs where passengers from various Mediterranean cruises come to and unwind.

* Veakeio Outdoor Theater:
While you are in Piraeus, you can check out the Athens newspaper to check the concerts, shows and other theatrical performances schedules in the Veakeio Outdoor Theather. If your Mediterranean Cruise is scheduled during summer, then you will most likely have a glimpse of these amazing performances. Another venue is the Municipal Theater in Korai Square that dates back to the 1880s and delivers beautiful performances and lectures.

* Greek Cuisine:

Savor the delicious and savory tastes of traditional Greek dishes. You can have a wide array of choices from meats to seafoods to moussaka as well as the wonderful pastries and desserts like baklava and mezedes with the ouzo.
