How to Pack Light for Cruise Trips

Cruise Trips Packing

Packing for your cruise

Cruise packing can be limited especially if you have to fly to the ship’s port. Aside from airline luggage weight requirements, carrying heavy luggage around can be quite stressful. Fortunately, there are a few things you can learn so you can pack a light luggage and relax even during the time you travel to and from your ship’s port.

The first thing you can do is to divide your luggage, one carry-on bag and another bigger one which will contain almost all of your clothing. The carry-on bag should hold your important things such as airline tickets, wallet, medication, hand sanitizer, mobile phone, digital camera, music player and eyewear. It will also be a good idea to put in a change of clothes just in case you’d want to change after your flight. Retrieving luggage can sometimes take a while once you are on the ship.

What type of clothes to bring?

It can be extremely hard to pack light especially if you are going on a longer trip. But it is possible and you don’t have to bring a pair of clothes for every day or event you spend on the cruise. One way of avoiding a heavy luggage is packing ordinary or every day clothes at a minimum. But first, check if there are laundry facilities or services on board. If there is, then choose clothes which you can mix and match. For instance, bring two types of upper clothing which can match one pair of pants or shorts. However, don’t forget to bring casual or formal wear for formal dinners on board.

Aside from clothing, you also have to think about the toiletries you will need for the trip. They can take up a lot of room in your luggage so remember to pack small bottles whose contents will just be enough for the cruise. And so they don’t make a mess in your luggage, double pack them in zip lock bags.

How many gadgets do you really need

Electronic gadgets and chargers can take a roomful of luggage space as well. Chargers can easily take up space and if you can do away with electronic gadgets, do so. For instance, if you can do away with your electronic toothbrush just for the trip, then buy the ordinary type. The most important ones are usually just video or digital cameras, mobile phone or PDA, laptop (if really needed) and music players.
