Cruise Tips… Enjoy a Cruise Today
Your Source for Practical “How To” Cruise Tips, Hints and Ideas!
Quick Tip: If your schedule is flexible, wait until the last minute to book your cruise. You can get absolutely fantastic deals this way. After all, the ship lines would rather get less money per cabin than leave partially empty. It’s possible to save up to 50% or more or get a free or greatly reduced cabin upgrade by doing this. Get to the ship on time:
It would be a real shame to spend your time and money booking a cruise and not make it to the ship on time. Give yourself extra travel time in case of cancelled flights, weather, etc. The great thing about using the cruise lines transportation… i.e. their bus service, is that if the bus breaks down… they’ll hold the ship for you. Although usually a little more expensive, their travel services might be worth the extra cost… if for no other reason than your own piece of mind.
You’re on the cruise to have fun and enjoy yourself:
So, if you don’t like schedules, being at certain places at fixed times … don’t! Here are a couple ideas: select the open seating dinner option instead of the fixed dining time. Opt out of scheduled shore excursions, etc. Remember, you don’t have to do every single event that’s happening on the ship.
But, in the same token…use the ship:
…that’s what you’re there for. Most rooms, even the least expensive, are comfortable, private and quiet. But, if you stay in your room just to watch tv… you might as well be at home and saving money. USE the ship’s facilities which are mostly free! Watch the sunsets on your Hawaii and Hawaiian Cruises, take free dance classes, play bingo. Get your money’s worth!
If you like the cruise line you’re on:
…check out the booking office on the ship to see what kind of deals they’ll give you on your next cruise. It might be worth your time. Remember, like all companies, cruise lines make the majority of their money from repeat customers. So, it’s an incentive for them to have you back again and again by giving you a great deal.
Shore excursions:
They’re a great way to see cities and ports all around the world and without them you just wouldn’t be able to see some of the places they take you to. But, they can get expensive and if you went on one at every port it could cost you a real bundle. Here’s what we’ve done… we explore some of the ports – cities ourselves by taxi, walking and renting bicycles. In fact, some of the best times we’ve had is when we went exploring on our own, at our own schedule… and at a lot less money.
Fantastic food:
Cruise ships have fantastic food and lots of it! Nowhere else can you eat so much great and varied food at no extra cost. But, you know what that means? Gaining lots of pounds. Not good. So, why don’t you just commit to exercising every day? Here’s what we do. We get up and take a walk every morning for a mile or so on the ships jogging track before breakfast. That way we feel ready to enjoy our day and a little less guilty about eating, plus exercising on an empty stomach actually burns more fat.
